TIGER CUBS

Tiger Cubs gather by Spreadeagle Yard,
Bo’s Albany posters peal off wood gates,
Space Invaders machine not where it’s at,
A ride to Blackheath is so much more fun.
Their pals in Rose and Crown press more buttons,
These young wild ones want more than fake shoot em up.
Ride up Crooms Hill past top of Greenwich Park,
Roar to Three Tuns where those Squeeze fans hang out,
Then down to Deptford to watch Red Lights play.
More than forty years since these young guys rode.
No smart phones then, nor either internet,
But they had freedom on South London roads.
I pass with camera, ask them to pose,
They looked majestic, yet neither one knows.

  1. Hello Harry,
A mate of mine, Dan Joseph who’ll you’ll no doubt remember from the Rose & Crown days sent me this link to your website. That’s me on the right with my 1956 Cub and Martin Dunsford on his 67 Super Cub. And indeed we had just patrolled the badlands of Blackheath and Greenwich, ready for a well earned pint. Don’t see much of Martin these days, but much of the old gang are still around in SE London. I’ve still got the cub tucked away in the back of my garage looking forlorn and hoping someone will relive its youth.
At the time you gave each of us a print of the great photo you took. Sadly mine has been disappeared. Would love a copy of it if you still hold the negatives or are able to scan. And of course I’d be happy to pay all costs.
Thanks, for posting the photo. Certainly brought back lots of great memories of that time. Martin doing acrobatics on his cub, down the hill through Greenwich park, immediately comes to mind.

Cheers and hope you are doing well,

    Justin
